 "Nice" 2009-11-01

This backpack is very well made, like all Brenthaven products, but is a little big and heavy. Plenty of storage and pockets. It seems really big if you put it under the seat on an airplane.

 "Perfect for business purposes" 2009-10-30
By MJC (Arlington, VA, USA)
For years I have been looking for a replacement of my old almost ideal backpack that I used to carry things to and from work. I need multiple pockets and above all storage placed halfway the backpack (so that you don't end with everything on the bottom and thus a bulky backpack). I just bought a new backpack that was 75% ok the day before I went to Europe, but decided to start using it upon return. Then, while in Europe, I saw this Brenthaven backpack by pure coincidence. It was absolutely perfect! I brought back the backpack I just had bought and ordered the Brenthaven online through Amazon. Have had it now for over a month and recommend it without any hesitation.

 "Great Backpack" 2009-10-20
By Enrique Pacheco
I'll be short and concise. 4 stars because there are only three things i don't like.

Pros:

- Great construction.

- Many Pockets, and inner pockets, so you if you're organized like i you'll love it.

- Great Materials, im not so sure about the handle on the top from other reviews, but now i used it to move a lot of things and my mac, and worked great.

- Good Padding.

- Great zippers.

Cons:

- Boring colors : comparing it to timbuk2 is ugly

- Is not as tall as i would like. My prior backpack could carry an axiom 25 midi controller inside.

- Not airtravel friendly, but hey it's not advertised that way. If you're traveling on a small airplane it DOES NOT fit under the seat if fully filled, and in a big airplane it fits confortably in overhead.

so long in the month i've owned it i could recommend it if you carry a good ammount of stuff.

And at the end the most important thing is that i feel my macbook is VERY safe

"Nice bag. But not for girls." 2009-10-17
By Scones and Tea
I love Brenthaven bags. My first was a messenger bag that is seven years old. After hard daily use, it looks exactly like it did the day I bought it. Absolutely zero wear. Padding is superb. Excellent bag.

This backpack seems to have similar quality. Seams are neat and strong. Good zipper pulls. Lots of pockets in convenient places. The optional mesh front will allow for my Camelbak. (I had previously worried about a lack of water bottle pocket on this bag, but the mesh takes care of that.)

My only beef is that this bag is obviously made for a man's shoulders. When I put it on my back, it just feels way too wide. The chest straps are also thick and curved inward just enough to be uncomfortable while pressing in on average-sized breasts. The across-the-chest strap doesn't help with this. Although it is adjustable, up or down, it just smashes everything to the chest. I would also prefer a hip or waist-level strap instead of just upper-chest.

Other than that, it's perfect. We just need a Brenthaven 'she' bag that works with real girl anatomy. Oh, and I'm 5'8" and about 125 lbs. So, I'm just sort of normal size. I wouldn't have anticipated this as an issue. But it is. If Brenthaven would borrow some strap dimensions from the LL Bean Celia hiker bag, I think they would have some happy techy girls on their hands.

 "Another Brenthaven winner" 2009-09-29
By Wesley Everett (Bellingham, WA)
I just went through my closet and counted six Brenthaven bags. It's not because they wear out; it's because they don't, and Brenthaven just keeps making new ones I like better. The oldest of the six looks pretty much like it did on day one, which tells you all you need to know about build quality. I'm a journalist and have used Brenthaven bags for a dozen years all over the world. They're the best. Quality zippers and materials, state-of-the-art protection that they somehow just keep improving, and great customer service. This particular backpack is one of my favorites, just because of its flexibility -- and comfort. Years ago, Brenthaven made great bags that lagged behind in features such as breathable mesh backing on backpacks. No more. This one is as comfortable in warm weather as the best day-hiking pack I own. And it's a heck of a lot sturdier.

Although the backpack is advertised for notebooks up to 15.5, note that a slightly larger machine, such as an HP SDX-16, will fit in the computer sleeve. Just barely, but it goes. Best features: The expansion zipper, which accomplishes the same thing as a larger bag that's fitted with messy compression straps that tangle everywhere (particularly in mag-and-bags). I use it when I want to add a jacket or lunch or something to my normal load. And the handy, long outside-front zipper pockets.

The music player pocket hidden between your shoulder blades in the rear is a nice touch, as well. It'll fit up to a Touch and a pair of earbudes. Although I don't use it much, the elastic/mesh carryall on the front is handy for stashing sports gear or a wet jacket or hat when you don't want to soak stuff inside your bag. It can be removed and stowed in a handy pouch at the bottom of the backpack, out of site. My one gripe is that the crucial front pocket, where you put your phone, keys, pens, recorder, etc, could be a little larger and more accessible by having the zipper go down farther on both sides. You have to reach in a bit. But that's a small thing. It's a winner, and for the price and its likely lifespan, a great value, as well.

P.S. If you can find the orange/black one, which looks a bit alarmingly bright online, it's a really cool burnt orange color in person.
