The bag is not a laptop bag in any sense. The unit is simply a heavy ("military") fabric messenger bag. The product description simply adds the term "laptop" to the same bag sold elsewhere - which is a typical military-style fabric messenger bag. The unit is unpadded, contains no straps to secure a laptop unit, does not hold its form, and is unsuitable for laptop storage in nearly every aspect.



On the bright side it has a small zipper pouch sewn into the inner compartment of the bag that has its uses. Aesthetics are appreciated in the area of "Man Purse" accessories (Rugged, utilitarian look)



I will keep the unit because returning it is more of a hassle than it is worth. I intend to use it for books and papers but it's not very suitable for that either - it collapses under its own weight, won't stand upright, storage compartments are not suitable for pens and other office tools.

I was hoping to get this bag in a dark gray, or black. Turned out they sent me the olive drab one. It appears the color you get may be random. Despite that, it is a nice, sturdy bag. I wouldn't call it a "laptop" bag because there seems to be no special accommodation for a laptop. It's simply just a bag that is big enough to hold a laptop. I have a 14 inch Asus Laptop I put in it. It's a bit loose in there, but it works well enough. I just have to be a little careful when I put it down because there is no padding or anything. The velcro that "holds" the main flap on is a joke. It does nothing. But it's not a huge deal, because a loose flap works well enough. Despite the drawbacks, this is a good looking bag that is cheap. I like it quite a bit.

Despite the fact that I thought this product would be a cool grey color, it was black. I really don't have a problem with black, and, thankfully, neither does my husband. (It was a gift for him.) I just expected grey. Other than that, this is a great bag. There's tons of room for my husband to put in all of his work gear and laptop. It's a very sturdy bag. There are two pockets on the outside of the bag. They're the small ones on the sides. There's one small zippered pocket and one huge compartment on the inside. My husband was thrilled with it.

I own 2 bags one for work and one for personal. This Timbuktu bag serves as my personal bag and I have been using it for over 4 years now. I am not a bike messenger but I was attracted to the shape and the quality of the bag. I really beat this bag up. I take it wherever I go whether it's to the coffee shop or during my travel. The bag has a protective sleeve for a laptop and tons of room for anything else. It doesn't have too many pockets and dividers but it has enough for you to separate all your important stuff. If you're looking for a no non-sense bag to lug stuff around, then this is your bag!

Few month ago I asked a fellow motorcycle rider about a bag he was carrying - he said timbuk2. He liked it a lot, however, he said, his was too big and the laptop was kinda all over the place.

So I paid a little extra and got the one that was made to carry a laptop.

Since I work in downtown, I ethier ride my motorcycle or Bart (train). This bag is great for either - it's easy on/off and stays with you at 80 MPH+.

The space is adequate for your laptop, gym gear and a water bottle, however I wouldn't call this bag large -it's just the right size.

If you are on the go and want something that looks good within a $100 budget - Get It - that's my verdict.

One of the selling points (for me) was that the bag is waterproof. It seems that the fabric is, but there's no zipper or anything to seal it tightly. In principle, water could flow into the open holes on the two ends of the bag (near the straps), though the weight of the bag's contents tends to close it tight in practice. The computer and inner pouch are safely protected from falling water by being in the center of the main flap, but the main compartment might just fill up with water in a heavy downpour.



There's no lack of pockets within pockets on the inside, but I'm a little disappointed that it doesn't have (unprotected) pockets on the outside, where I like to put ID badges for easy retrieval.



Also, a buyer should know that while the main flap can be closed with clips (as seen in the picture), there's also a lot of velcro holding it down. I haven't decided whether this is a good thing or not--- velcro has a limited lifetime and can be loud to open in meetings, but it does make the flap want to stay down, so I don't need to bother clipping it all the time. If I decide to remove the velcro, I'll need to do it with a seam-ripper.



The way that it changes shape under weight (closing the open holes near the straps like parted lips) also makes it difficult to retrieve things while wearing it, which is one of the things I liked about messenger bags (like purses with laptops in them).

I already had a Timbuk2 commute messenger, so I figured I would be happy with this bag. I got the medium size to use as a camera bag, and it fits the Tenba Laptop insert (not available here, Tenba model #638-251), along with a laptop, perfectly. The bag is quite spacious- the photos don't adequately represent this.



The only downside with this bag versus the commute (which would not fit the Tenba insert) is there are no side pockets for me to stick a water bottle in.



The only thing to take heed of is that the picture has a different color scheme than the bag actually has (for the Dark Brown/Rusty/Dark Brown variation). I was prepared for this because the description of the color is correct. So, I put in a little extra effort and found a pic of a Timbuk2 bag with those colors at Timbuk2's own website. I'm actually happy the colors are not the same as the picture, because I think the colors in the picture are poorly matched.

This is a great messenger bag. I use it almost every day to carry my MacBook Pro 15". I like the design which makes this bag has lot of room with useful pockets inside. One thing I don't like is the shoulder strap pad comes with it. The pad is not very comfortable to use. I just ordered Skooba R730-203 Superbungee Strap which has very good review from others to replace it. No complain other than that. Love the bag!

I bought this for my netbook because the netbook bag that they offer seemed a tad too small (and frankly, they're the only ones that make a bag for my netbook that isn't hideous or childish). I have a little extra room to fit it in with the neoprene sleeve. It's spacious enough to carry all of my extras, and a few books if I need it. It's very well constructed, and I know I'm going to get a few years of use out of it. I haven't taken it outside in the rain yet, we'll see how that goes. The shoulder pad is included, though it does not display it in the picture. All in all, I'm very satisfied with this bag.

well i gotta admit it, I purchased this bag planning to buy a 15" or bigger lappie, and ended up buying a netbook(but that's another story)

pros:

*protective place, room, compartiment, whatever is called for the laptop

*lots of pockets(more than 4 I guess)

* a 16" laptop can fit inside this bag



that's all I remember... :S



Cons:

*the belt's rings are made of plastic(I bought it thinking they were metallic)

*looks huge while carrying it

*it's huge...



Recomended if you have a normal laptop or if you are big...

If you want a very large bag, this one could be for you. Like many other people, I struggle to find the right bag--and believe that bags should be leased since it's impossible to know if they are going to work until you use them for a week or so. This one is quite good, but in the end, I put it aside, simply because it's too large (thus heavy). The bag itself is not heavy, but you'll end up loading it with all sorts of things and then you'll be carrying more weight than you want to. But, if you want/need a large, good looking bag that's made well, this is an excellent choice.

Update (10/29/09): Just wanted to say that the bag is still going strong. I've used it 5 times a week and carry quite a bit stuff in it since I purchased it almost 6 months ago, and there's nary a rip, tear, or broken seam. The build quality is definitely better than I originally thought.



Only "downside" to the bag is that its price seems to have gone up for some reason. When I purchased it through Amazon 6 months ago, it was 12-13 bucks, and my original 5-star review was relative to that fact. At 2-3 times that price though, the SA9153 is no longer an amazing value, and though still a good bag, there are lots of other bags in that price range to consider.

The very first thing I noticed about this bag was how light it was. I'm not exaggerating when I say it weighs almost nothing. The reason for this is because the material is very, very, very thin. These would be a good points if the bag were made from say, bulletproof silk, but since it's not, I think the reviewers questioning its durability have legitimate worries. I'd be very cautious about trying to cram too much stuff into this thing. Also, if you need something for long distance travel (say, you walk to work), I'd probably stay away from this particular model to be on the safe side.



On the flip side, in terms of functionality, I think the bag is great, especially considering the price. The best feature for me is the water bottle pockets on each side of the bag; I use the more durable-looking pocket to hold my coffee mug (approximately 10.5 inches in diameter) and the less durable-looking side to hold a typical pint-sized (or 20 oz) water bottle.



Other good characteristics of the SA9153 include its waterproof lining and very comfortable strap padding. No worries about your laptop, books, etc getting wet from rain. Also, I never noticed how uncomfortable my old Solo bag was to lug around until I started using this Swiss Alps bag- no more shoulder pain.



The interior of the SA9153 is large enough to accommodate a laptop (it has a padded section designed specifically for laptops) and a large book. Again though, I'd be very wary about trying to carry much more than that due to the questionable build quality. The bag also has a lot of various-sized interior pockets for odds and ends like pens, pda, phone, etc. The outside also has a small zippered section that can hold a small book, some snacks, or the like.



Finally, I'm not sure why so many reviewers are commenting about the bag's size being too large. It's no bigger than any other messenger/laptop bag I've owned. That is, if it were any smaller, I don't see how it would be very practical for everyday use. I think it's the perfect size for work or college needs, and I'm stumped as to what people are trying to use this thing for that they consider it too large.



Questionable build quality aside, I think this is a great bag, functionally and aesthetically (I want to emphasize that I think the bags only FEELS cheap). Also, considering the price, there's very little risk involved in trying it out for yourself. Of course, only time will tell if this bag is as cheaply-made as it feels, but as long as it doesn't rip open and spill my stuff all over the parking lot in front of my work or apartment, I can't complain. If something like this ever does happen, you can be sure I'll update this review.

I bought this because I absolute have to get away from traveling with humongous laptop purses and briefcases, as they're just too hard on my shoulder. This bag manages to be big enough for "lumpy things" (larger digital cameras, GPS's, fat wallets, books, etc.), with the usual assortment of big and small pockets--most internal, a good thing, plus two water-bottle holders. Yet the backpack manages not to look or feel too bulky, too casual, or too "collegiate." The design is nice enough I will use this for business trips without feeling self-conscious.



As for size, I am very short and the bag feels fine, not too long or wide; the well-padded shoulder straps hit my shoulder just right.



My laptop is very small, so it fits fine -- I can't speak to whether it really fits a 15.4" laptop, but it will sure haul my gear. I also really like that the 'puter pocket is a separate zipped compartment, with very thick padding.



I would take off half a star for the too-small cell phone holder on the front strap, except I plan to use it for my driver's license when I get to airports... I'll go find an accessory that accomplishes the same. It's very hard to complain at all about such a well-made product at this price. And the color is great, too!

I got this backpack after an adventure of trying to fit my laptop and assorted electronic gizmos into my laptop briefcase on a short airline trip. I had a sore shoulder and thought there has to be another solution besides bringing less stuff (which will never happen). This backpack is the perfect solution. My 15.4" widescreen laptop fits perfectly into the padded laptop zippered slot. The front area is large enough with many slots/pouches for all the assorted electronic gizmos and their assorted cords and accessories. There is plenty of room for books and other assorted school supplies as well. The front flap closes securely with two clasps and also has an outside zippered area to store stuff. There is a mesh holder on each side for bottled drinks. I got the green tea/parsley color which looks really cool with the orange interior color (these are two of my favorite colors). The best part of this backpack even if you stuff it will all the above mentioned it will not weigh you down. The padded straps are wide and allow the weight to be evenly distributed so there is less strain on your back and shoulders. I would highly recommend this backpack especially for students or travelers who are always on the go and carry their laptop everywhere and want something that can carry everything without weighing them down.

I bought this bag as an alternative to the traditional backpack because I wanted to be able to travel with a bag securely on my back with no hands needed. It is snug and comfortable to wear and holds my 17" MPB as well as a book, the power supply, and a few other items. There are plenty of pockets to put pens, business cards, change, cash, etc.



There are a couple of things to know concerning the bag though. If you have a 17" MBP, the fit is quite tight and it *just* zippers around it. I don't have a problem with this. Also, if you have an iPhone, the pocket on the strap that goes in the front will not fit it. I use it for my ID or whatever else I need quick access to when traveling.



I really love this bag. It's just big enough to hold the essentials and it's lightweight. Love all the pockets and compartments, as well as the included bag for accessories. It's a great buy!

This is a great bag! Sturdy and well-padded, but light. It is very small, though - it holds little more than my 15-inch Mac and some papers or small notebooks. I actually appreciate this feature as it makes me carry only what I need, which is easier on my back. It has lots of pockets everywhere, which is also very useful. I think my only complaint is how long the strap is. I'm not a tiny person, but I have the strap pulled as tight as possible and it's still a bit big, plus I've had to rig it to keep the end of the strap from hanging down well past my hip.



Overall it's a great bag and I'm happy with my purchase.

I really love this bag. I've taken great care of it but for some reason the sewing near the zipper is coming undone and now I can see inside my bag... I'm no expert at sewing, but I'm going to attempt to fix it. The reason I love this bag is the fact that it feels so light even with my 15" macbook inside and other items. You can easily fit a notebook in it along with pencils, your laptop charger, and mouse. It has a little hole to slip your headphones from in case you want to listen to music on the go. Very nice design :) I'm just a bit depressed mine is breaking :( I still use it though, lol.

The bag is trendy not too big but the fact that is has only one sholder handle makes carrying a laptop in it as painful as carrying a laptop in a handbag as i used to do. I would recomment the same bag with two sholder handles, that would probably hurt less!

This Sling bag is SOOOO comfortable. Keeps my laptop real snug and safe. LOVE the color and is VERY comfortable... only bad thing is since its such a compact bag there isn't enough room for too much else besides your REAL essentials.

I bought this bag as an alternative to the traditional backpack because I wanted to be able to travel with a bag securely on my back with no hands needed. It is snug and comfortable to wear and holds my 17" MPB as well as a book, the power supply, and a few other items. There are plenty of pockets to put pens, business cards, change, cash, etc.

This is a great bag! Sturdy and well-padded, but light. It is very small, though - it holds little more than my 15-inch Mac and some papers or small notebooks. I actually appreciate this feature as it makes me carry only what I need, which is easier on my back. It has lots of pockets everywhere, which is also very useful. I really love this bag. I've taken great care of it but for some reason the sewing near the zipper is coming undone and now I can see inside my bag... I'm no expert at sewing, but I'm going to attempt to fix it. The reason I love this bag is the fact that it feels so light even with my 15" macbook inside and other items.
