"I LOVE Crumpler bags BUT....." 2009-08-14
By C. Marino (TN)
When I ordered this bag online I thought this would be the last camera bag I'd ever buy. Unfortunately I am going to put it on eBay and go with a Lowepro bag.

The reason for this is because although the bag is large, my camera (Canon 5D Mark II) doesn't even fit in it! The compartment for equipment is SO small and it's really awkward to get to. This bag is more for point and shoot cameras with a couple of extra batteries.

The upside is...it's a Crumpler! It's built really well and it does hold a laptop securely and well protected. If you don't have a "large" camera and a lot of accessories then this is definitely the bag for you!

"Well made but on the heavy side" 2009-04-12
By S. Fung (Daly City, CA United States)
The bag is well made with very good and sturdy material, which is also the down side of this bag. It's quite heavy. I used it to carry a Canon 20D and EF24-70mm lens. My shoulder and back are tired after a few hours of walk when I was traveling to Japan. Imagine I had to do the same for a few days. It was no fun.

"Best bag I could find" 2009-02-04
By Alastair Battson (Newton-Boston, MA. USA. from England originally)
Looked into a bag that would allow me to take my Nikon D80 and 3 lens aswell as my laptop and other bits on a flight as one. This suited the task perfectly. It is rather expensive but I liked the design and look so much I forked out for it any way. its very cool and different, although increasing less so as Crumpler gets popular. I got the khaki Orange one. It holds all I need it too and more. It is very well made too. I have no real quarms with it after 6 month. I have a couple of design improvements I can think of though. The tab/flap that holds the laptop in is way too long, I know its long for security but getting the laptop out at the airport is tough, especially if you have stuff in the compartment area infront of it. I also now wish it had the ability to either detach the laptop section when i arrive on vacation or that the camera area detached so i don't have to cart the big bag everywhere. Its is a barge like it says. But there is no bag like that on the market. So i still have to flatten my slingshot and cart that in the suitcase for just the camera on vacation. But overall a great bag. If your unsure also check out the Lowepro Fastpacks for better laptop access

 "Feeling "ripped-off"!" 2008-10-13
By K. Sebastian (Doha, Qatar)
I had really high expectations from this bag and from Crumpler. I still use a Crumpler Messenger bag purchased 3 years ago (from Aus.) and it's still as good as new.

Never thought twice before spending US $190 on this bag. Money was no issue and as I was very confident about the Crumpler design, quality and style. I couldn't locate a Crumpler store here in the Middle East so I decided to get it on Amazon. But it has turned out to be a major disappointment.

Within the first 5 mins of use, the black nylon strap separated from the padded part of the left shoulder strap. The stitching came off. The bag was nearly empty (just my Pentax SLR) and I had used it for approx 5 mins (1 min before getting into the car, and 4 mins after getting out and riding an elevator). The strap just failed (embarassing public moment). At first I refused to accept it, refused to believe. I thought it was just some buckle strap that must've come undone and could be put back easily. Slowly realisation dawned, the stitching had come off. No way I could repair it without some heavy duty sewing equipment. What was even more shocking was the other strap looked like it would come of easily (frayed stiches). Apalling! I would never in my dreams expect this even from a $10 bag. No Way.

Since I had this mailed to me overseas (shipped to my NY address and then spent a lot of money having it forwarded overseas to the middle east where I work). I cannot send it back without spending a lot of money. I could buy another bag for that amount. And that's exactly what I did. Just ordered a KATA DR-467 for $66.

I still can't figure out how Crumpler who sell products for about 400% the price of their competition could let a defective product slip through. All in all, I'm very disappointed.

BTW, this is a beautifully designed but poorly engineered product. Also, be warned that the bag itslef is huge and weighs a lot (approx 3Lbs??) Well, my laptop weighs less than that LOL! This bag will eat into your cabin luggage allowance. Since its huge you'd have to stuff into the overhead baggage compartment, thus risking damage to your delicate camera equipment.

 "Perfect Bag for Everything" 2008-06-05
By Amanda
I bought this camera for a trip to China last summer because I needed a bag to carry my DSLR, lenses and a laptop. It was the perfect travel bag for me. I used this as a carry-on, and while it is quite large, it made it for me.

I am also a college student, and this is a great bag for carrying everything I need for the day. This backpack has a ton of dividers, and they all velcro so you can rearrange and make it your own.

This is a sturdy bag, and I really like the straps and backing. When you are putting a DSLR, lenses, laptop, charger, batteries, and everything else for a trip, it gets heavy fast, and this was a great bag at distributing the weight. The back has firm but soft padding that helps the bag maintain its shape and it has a slot on the backing that is molded to your spine and makes it much more comfortable.

Overall, I would recommend this for anyone who needs a bag for a trip or a sturdy bag to hold ALL of their gear.

"WARNING Not everybody here is reviewing the same backpack" 2009-05-08
By Swift (Cambridge, UK)

A little history here. Several years ago, I'm guessing around 2002-2003 or so, Ourdoor Products made a wonderful backpack called the "Power Pack." It was intelligently made of decent materials and could take a lot of abuse while at the same time it could carry a LOT. Yes, it came with a pointless CD case and a bunch of accessory pockets that nobody in their right mind would use, but overall it was an excellent backpack. You can recognize this backpack broadly because it was all black and had zippers with yellow/orange tab-type things.

Then, "something happened." I can only speculate that it involves a series of McKinsey MBA geniuses getting their tentacles into Outdoor Products and "earning" their fees with a series of recommendations that could only be described as moronic.

Initially, they released slightly downgraded versions of the original black power pack - basically the same laptop, but with cheaper bits and pieces such as zipper pulls (and maybe zippers) and the handle. Then, they decided to really be dumb and release a very watered down version of this backpack - at present, it is the one amazon has for sale and it is available in grey/black and some other color. This second generation is inferior to the original in virtually every way - I've seen it in person and it is basically junk with the added bonus of two-tone color schemes as unattractive and dowdy as the dorkiest EastPak bag.

Recently, they have introduced a PowerPack 2.0 bag, available in red/black and black/blck. While arguably a bit better than this retooled original powerpack, it's still a far cry from the original. Spend a few moments with that one, and you'll notice the poor choice of materials and styling.

To make matters worse, the company's customer service team does not answer emails.

Avoid Outdoor Products. they are a dying company who clearly doesn't care about their products or consumers any more.

 "Amazing" 2008-09-30

Amazing backpack. I have never loved one more. It feels like air even with 7 books inside! I'm anal about organizing things and LOVE all the compartments. It's $65 at REI and $20 cheaper here! So for the same price as a Jansport bag, you're getting SO much more quality- just go and buy it already.

 "Good Concept, Poor Execution" 2008-09-07
By J. Monaly Jr. (Glendale, CA United States)
I purchased this backpack in May 2008 prior to a trip to Europe after finishing Grad School. The pack looked like it was well made and as some of the other reviewers stated, it hid a notebook computer well and didn't scream "steal me".

The first two weeks, I noticed some of the stitching coming undone. The zippers were difficult to operate by the pull tabs, almost like the zippers would not smoothly zip, I ended up pulling the openings open by the sides to get the zipper to function properly even this is not how I have ever used a zipper before.

After those first two weeks, I tried to use it as a commuter bag while cycling in to work, which is about an hour each way. That was when things started to really go downhill. As I tried to put the computer in there, a change of clothes for work, my wallet, keys and a few other things, the usefulness of this pack started to disappear. Zippers failed to function, at all. The plastic adjustment clips for the straps broke into pieces. I tied the straps to the remaining plastic so I could get home.

Overall, it is a good concept but the workmanship and materials are SERIOUSLY lacking. This pack would be best suited to those who put only a computer and light support items in the pack. If you intend to use it as a backpack for school or a replacement for a computer bag and a backpack (my hope was to use this so I didn't need to lug a computer bag in addition to my pack for IT work), don't get this pack until Outdoor Products fixes the flaws with this thing.

I am returning this pack and getting a backpack from REI.

Joe.

"Not made for heavy items" 2007-12-29
By V. Corsiglia
I am a student and bought this bag at the beginning of September. By December the stitching on one of the straps started coming out and one of the plastic pieces holding the strap snapped. I think this would be a great backpack for airport travel or lighter loads because of its great features. It was not able to handle 3 textbooks, a binder and a laptop.

 "Broke within 2 Weeks" 2007-12-21
By Scott M. Ellingson (Chicago, IL)
This bag has many pockets for anything and everything, but the build quality is not up to snuff, I've had 2 plastic pieces on the straps break and 2 zipper snaps within 2 weeks of heavy use.

If you don't use it every day with an insanely heavy load, you're probably okay. Just don't stress it, but it will not respond well.

This modern backpack was designed for the SLR photographer with a large digital or film SLR with a grip and lens attached, several lenses, a flash and accessories. The new Adventure 7 features a youthful, modern and sleek design that, for security, does not look like a camera bag. In this uniquely designed backpack, the lower section is a completely foam-padded camera bag compartment, while the upper section functions like a traditional backpack to hold a light jacket, lunch or other personal items needed on your next photo adventure. The front pocket features Tamrac's patented Memory & Battery Management System that uses red flags to identify which memory cards and batteries are available. The foam-padded camera compartment has a weather flap and quick-release buckle for security and weather protection. Two mesh pockets on the sides provide quick access to accessories and water bottles. Two lash tabs on the bottom of the backpack can accommodate a compact tripod (requires accessory straps). Also features Tamrac's Strap Accessory System attachment points for customizing with optional S.A.S. products.

 "Big Enough For You?" 2009-08-20
By Zurst Maximus (Indiana)
My new camera arrived in the mail and I was looking to replace my old square camera bag with a new one. I knew that I wanted a red back pack. I had recently looked at a Tamrac bag when shopping in my local Best Buy store. They did not have the correct size I wanted, so I started shopping online. After checking several websites, I found Amazon.com had the best price. The description listed for the Adventure 7 Photo said a Canon EOS D1 camera would fit along with a telephoto lens, and other accessories. Since that was the model number of the camera I had just bought I was sold! I was very happy with the style, design, and durability of the Tamrac Adventure 7, but I have alot of accessories. If I could do it over again, I would buy a bigger bag that would allow me to keep my Canon 70-200 zoom lens on the body, which would also allow me to be ready for any unexpected photo opportunities which come up quickly. The bag is very heavy when fully loaded. I would have given it 5 out of 5 stars if it would have been bigger in size. The Tamrac Adventure 9 was the next size up, but it holds a laptop which I do not own, and so I had no use for this model bag. Unless you need a bigger bag like me, then buy the Tamrac Adventure 7 as it is a really nice bag for the money. You won't be disappointed!

"Watch out for your laptop!" 2009-06-18
By Peter van Es (El Paso, TX United States)
I was looking for a bag pack where I could stack my Canon 40D and a couple of lenses and that had a compartment for my Dell Latitude laptop. This backpack seemed to have it all and it does. The space for my photo gear is big enough and has dividers. Above the photo compartment, there is another compartment which I use for my travel papers (tickets, passports, pen), cables, and medicines, shades, book, etc. Behind the two front compartments there's another space to store my laptop. And that's where I do have a big issue. I don't know if it's only me, but in four occasions my laptop dropped out of the slot where you slide the laptop in the compartment. The slot is on the side of the back pack and a zipper closes it. But if you forget to close the zipper (and yes I hear you say: duhhhh), and you pick up your back pack, the laptop falls out on the floor. Since the back pack is dark (black on the side) you can hardly see if the zipper is up or down and the moment you get distracted for a sec and you forget to close the zipper, you have a big problem. Thank God I've got the Dell Complete care since the tech guys have been out here fixing my laptop four times in a row. But if you don't need the laptop compartment, go ahead, it's a great back pack.

 "Perfect for light going" 2009-02-16
By Jeff Hansman (Carmel Valley, CA USA)
Tamrac makes great photo accessories, and this bag is made consistent with their usual quality. Roomy enough for a dSLR with a prime lens or medium telephoto, there is plenty of other compartments to store extra lenses, filters, etc. The upper compartment, while small, could hold your lunch or a compressible rain jacket. The main compartment has padded, Velcro-attached dividers that can be removed or changed around. There is, IMO, one design flaw: the buckle strap that, when released, lets you tilt the upper compartment back to access the main equipment compartment gets in the way when you want to access the front pocket (see product picture). I solved this by simply adding a small square of black Velcro to the strap and front of the top compartment (you can use the stick-on kind for car dashboards, or sew on the non-adhesive kind); now, when I release the strap, I can stick it up out of the way. What I like most about this backpack is that it is compact (but not too much so), affordable, very well made, and comfortable even when fully packed. True, you have to take it off to access your gear, but that's no biggie in my book.

I've had this bag for about a month now and i love it! it holds my 40d w/ 28-135 lens, 50mm prime lens and the 75-300 in the top compartment when needed. It's incredibly stealthy too! took it on a trip with friends when i first got it, and they didnt even realize it was a camera bag until i pulled out the gear! would definitely buy again! :-D

Well built bag that is good for a day trip. Bottom holds all my gear that I need. Only thing missing is a holder for my tripod. Top holds food and an extra jacket or raingear. Would recomend for someone looking for a good day trip bag or a carry on for airplane. If you have a laptop this not the bag.
